Talga Group has secured a grant from the EU Innovation Fund to support its Luleå Anode Refinery, part of the Vittangi Anode Project in Sweden. The €70 million ($75.5 million) funding will help develop Talga’s low-emission natural graphite anode material, known as Talnode-C. This grant was awarded as part of the IF23 initiative, which aims to fund innovative net-zero projects across Europe. Talga’s project was one of 85 selected from 337 applications, receiving part of a total of €4.8 billion allocated by the EU Innovation Fund.

The company plans to enter the “grant preparation” phase, formalizing the necessary documentation, with the goal of signing the grant agreement by early 2025. This funding is important for establishing a vertically integrated mine-to-anode operation. Talga’s Vittangi Anode Project aims to produce 19,500 tonnes per year of Talnode-C, highlighting the growing demand for natural graphite in Europe’s battery supply chain. Talga’s CEO, Martin Phillips, expressed confidence in the project’s recognition by the European Commission, emphasizing its role in supporting the EU’s innovation and decarbonization efforts.
